Exploring Tennessee

Adventuring in Chattanooga!!

One of the really fun cities in Tennessee is Chattanooga.  This college town is anything but sleepy and there is something for everyone.  Chattanooga is about two hours outside Nashville and if you are coming from Nashville the drive is really pretty.  It is not too far for just a day trip or staying a weekend.  I have explored this multiple times and I find something great every time I go!  Here are some of the really great things I have done in this town.

Walnut Street Bridge

The Walnut Street Bridge is a pedestrian bridge that runs over the Tennessee River.  This bridge is fun to walk across.  Each side of this bridge has something different to offer. One side has the aquarium, an art museum and a really good ice cream shop. The other side has shops and a cute little park.  Both sides have great restaurants but we will chat about that later.

This bridge is also one of the longest pedestrian bridges in the world.  So grab an ice cream and take a stroll.  This bridge is also a great place to take some fun photos!

Tennessee Aquarium

I have been lucky enough to have gone to this aquarium multiple times.  I think it is truly a must do in Tennessee.  Anytime I have visitors I make sure to put this on my list. This aquarium has two sides, freshwater creatures and sea creatures.  Another thing that I love about this aquarium is that it is interactive. In the River Journey, you can pet sturgeons and on the ocean journey stingrays and little sharks.  I have been to the aquarium pre covid which offers some really fun exhibits.  Hopefully when covid is over you will be able to crawl through these tunnels and be in the middle of the crab exhibit.  I do think the aquarium does a pretty good job with social distancing.  When I visit new cities, I always check out the aquarium.  This one makes my top ten.  It is really worth $30.  I also love that they are breeding facilities for turtles!

Point Park

If you get car sick this drive might not be worth it.  To get to Point Park it’s an all uphill  journey on a really winding road.  It is worth the drive though in my opinion but others may get car sick.  The view is spectacular. We didn’t really explore the park as much as I would have like but  we were there mainly for the view!  I would recommend this just for the view alone.  The park has a lot of history to it as well.  I would have loved to explore more. We went later in the day as the sun was setting and it was pretty cold up there.

Rock City

Get lost in the rocks and explore the places of the gnomes. I loved exploring this area.  We spent a good three hours here. There are stairs and some tight squeezes but so enjoyable.  I would recommend wearing tennis shoes.  The view of the seven states is amazing, as is the waterfall.  Food and drinks are available on site.  You can explore the fairytale caverns and get your steps in.   When leaving makes sure to try some of the delicious fudge.

The Good Dog

We grabbed lunch at the Good Dog.  If you like hot dogs, I would highly recommend it.  This place is also very reasonable.  I stuck with a pretty basic dog and added ketchup and mustard.  I was a little disappointed that they were out of fries but their fry option looked right up my alley.  I still would recommend this cute little place to pick up some food.

Chattanooga is a great town to explore and enjoy.  There is something here for everyone!
