Exploring Tennessee

Safari Adventure in Tennessee

Alamo Tennessee is the home of the Tennessee Safari Park.  This family owned safari park has over 700 animals and includes 100 different species.

There are two parts of this park, a drive thru and a walk thru. Both have options for you to feed the animals.

Let’s start with the basics. Cost…This place can be a little pricey. It is charged per person and not by vehicle. It is $20 for every adult and $12 for children.  I would also suggest that you purchase feed at the gate as this is a huge portion of the drive thru experience. Make sure you bring cash to pay for this.  They do not have an atm on premise.

Let’s start with the drive thru portion.  This has four drive thru areas which contain different animals. Drive thru one had ostriches and zebras. I wouldn’t suggest feeding the zebra as there are signs they may bite.  The second section is where all the action was.  This is where you will experience buffalo, llamas, deer and ostriches up close and personal.  You will be able to roll down the windows to feed the animals.

Let me tell you about my experiences of feeding these bad boys. The ostriches are quite horrifying in my opinion. They are legit pecking at you wildly why you hold this tiny container at their mercy. I fed one and that was all my heart could handle.  The buffalo are pretty greedy if you ask me.  They don’t want to eat nicely out of your container but will rip it from your hands to spill the precious feed you purchased at the beginning.  My preference was feeding the llamas and little deer as they were super cute and gentle. I would also suggest staying away from the camels as they too were pretty aggressive. Make sure you save some feed to feed the giraffe that they had at the end.  The giraffe was extremely gentle and was probably the highlight of my visit.

After you drive thru the park, you can visit the walk thru zoo. It wasn’t extremely impressive. They have some lemars and monkeys.  They have an petting area where you can love on some baby goats.  There are two spots where you can feed goats some feed and the giraffe some carrots.

I had a lot of fun with my Mom here. It was pretty pricey in my opinion though.  We had a blast but we are both animal people. I know kids would love to feed the animals and be up close to them.  Memories are worth the price!
