New York State of Mind
I have been to New York state a few times and there is always more to see and do! This was a short visit to see my Best Friend and God Daughter. The weather in July is hot and there was some humidity while I was there. We did a lot of walking so having good walking shoes is important.
Here are the few new things I did when I was in the city.
The Little Island
This patch of green in New York City took seven years to build and cost almost $260 Billion to construct. The good news is this space is free to enjoy. Due to large crowsa though you will sometimes be required to show a reservation after 12:30pm. When I went we had a reservation but they were not requiring us to show proof as the park was not extremely packed at the time. The park has different heights and views to experience. I also enjoyed the different musical sections for guests to try. There is a small amphitheater where we watch a run through of an upcoming event. I think this would be an amazing location for a performance. It was extremely hot when I went and I had a mask on due to crowds. I would try to do this on a cool day as there is no shade. They do have food and drink vendors. I got an adult beverage and walked around for about 30 minutes. This wouldn’t be a must do for me in New York but it was fun going to something that was so new!
Chelsea Market
Being a Washintonian, I know a good market when I see one. This made me think of Pike Place Market in Seattle. The Chelsea market was full of little shops and places to dine. This market has all types of cousine. I settled from some chicken tendies at Creamline. These did not disappoint. This market is where I picked up souvenirs for my family. It was also a great way to escape the heat!
The Highline
The Highline is a 1.45 mile walking path in New York City. What use to be an old railroad has been transformed into a luscious green walking path. The path also has views of the Hudson river and the city. It is definitely worth the walk!
Now we are going to move away from the hustle and bustle of the city to talk about a few other great places.
Sunken Meadow State Park
This is a fun little place to take a walk. You can walk along the boardwalk which has a total length of ¾ mile. This looks out into the harbor. I would suggest this beached for laying out as it has a pretty rocky beach and it is full of washed up shells. There are also trails to be walked. This is a great place to enjoy fresh air and talk with an old friend. I had fun exploring this place and it only cost us $10.
Downtown Northport
This place has the cutest downtown area and it looks out in to the harbor. This is a great area to get a cup of coffee, ice cream or just a bite to eat. We ate Brew Cheese which had the best grilled cheeses and a good selection of beer. It is fun to walk around the harbor and look at the water and take in the boats entering and exiting. It is a nice escape from the hustle and bustle of the city,
